My name is Alice and I study Psychology at the University of Surrey. When looking for placements, I specifically was interested in Human Resources at RCI Financial Services, as I was keen to see how my studies of psychology and human behaviour could relate to a business environment.
My role as HR intern is exciting, challenging and rewarding. My responsibilities are to support the workings of a busy Human Resources department and to manage my own projects. In doing so, I have been able to learn about the different aspects of Human Resources; including (but not limited to), Recruitment, to Learning and Development, to general day to day administration. My most recent project was to organise RCI’s attendance at University Career Fairs, for which I worked closely with interns at Renault UK.
Already in my internship, I have noticed a vast improvement in my data analysis, time management, attention to detail and problem solving skills. This personal development has been pushed by the huge amount of support given to me by the HR team, including fortnightly one to ones with my supervisor. The mentoring I am given is centred on setting and achieving goals, so that I can get the most out of my year at RCI.
The best part of my role is the variation in the tasks that I do – it’s never the same day twice! To complete these tasks, I often work with people from different departments which has not only improved my confidence, but has taught me about different areas of the business.
I feel lucky to be part of a company that wholeheartedly welcomes interns into its business operations. All interns at RCI are actively encouraged to get involved in important meetings, share their ideas openly and to take on lots of responsibility.
I would highly recommend RCI Financial Services for anyone interested in doing a placement.
